MMEA detains a drillship for anchoring without permission

According to Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), “Sonangol Quenguela” drillship was detained in Tg Sedili Maritime Zone (ZMTS) approximately 9 nautical mile east of Tanjung Balau.

Director of ZMTS, Maritime Captain Mohd Zulfadhli Bin Nayan said that the Bahamas-registered drillship was detained for dropping anchor without permission in Malaysia water. Zulfadhli added that the drillship was controlled by crew of 43 men including Master, aged between 28 to 67 years old from various countries.

Sonadrill is a joint venture company between Seadrill and Empresa de Serviços e Sondagens de Angola Ltda, an affliate of Angola’s oil company, Sonangol.
