KUALA LUMPUR, 30 November 2021 – PETRONAS and PTTEP announced a gas discovery from its Nangka-1 wildcat exploration well in Block SK417, located in the shallow waters of Baram Province, about 180 kilometres off the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia.

The Nangka-1 well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 3,758 metres in September 2021. The sweet gas was discovered in the Middle to Late Miocene Cycle VI clastic reservoirs, further validating the hydrocarbon potential in the surrounding areas.

PTTEP HK Offshore Limited (Malaysia Branch) or PTTEP HKO is the operator for Block SK417 with 80 per cent participating interest, while PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd holds the remaining 20 per cent.

PTTEP HKO, commenced the drilling of the second exploration well, Nangka -1, in Block SK417 in June 2021 following the discovery from the first exploration well Dokong-1 earlier this year. Nangka-1 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 3,758 meters and encountered gas pay in sandstone reservoir.

The discovery at Nangka-1 is another discovery that PTTEP has made in Malaysia this year following the success at Sarawak SK417’s Dokong, SK410B’s Lang Lebah, SK405B’s Sirung, and SK438’s Kulintang fields

In February this year, PETRONAS and PTTEP announced a new gas discovery in the Dokong-1 wildcat exploration well in the same block, in the Baram Province.
